Dump proponents launch charm offensive aimed at mayors, public

While landfill opponents are hiring lawyers and erecting "Stop the Mega Dump" signs all over the Gatineau Hills, promoters of the proposed Danford Lake Dump recently went on the offensive themselves with a number of initiatives aimed at shoring up support for the project.

All mayors from MRC Pontiac, MRC la-vallee-de-la-Gatineau, and MRC Des Collines were invited to a closed information session organised by Gatineau communication Innovacom at Lac-Ste.-Marie Mar.2. However, few of the over 40 mayors turned up for the pitch and complimentary refreshments, with only eight from Pontiac, three from Vallee-de-la-Gatineau, and one (La Peche Mayor Robert Bussiere) from MRC Des Collines, the proponents also produced a 20 page colour brochure (available in this week's paper) outlining the benefits of the project.
